I've published a snapshot of VCS in the state I commented in the last post, i.e. it works on FreeBSD and possibly more OSes than before, but output is less refined there. But since I've been a bit sidetracked I've opted to publish now and update later on 😛

I love VCS, and I use it currently on my home CentOs 5 server.
However, when I try to run this on my other server (RHEL 4) I get a error:
./vcs-1.0.100a: line 1063: syntax error near unexpected token `"$VCSTEMPDIR"'
Do you have any idea what the problem is here?

Judging by what's on that line I guess RHEL4 includes a bash version too old (bash 3.1 is the minimum version required –use "
bash --version" to display it). I'm sorry if that's the problem, but for my own sanity I decided to target relatively new bash versions only :/Tell me if your bash is newer in case I missed something.
Are you still working on this? I have gotten it working on Mac OS X and I have a few notes for you.

Yes, VCS is still alive, I'm not working on it right now but I haven't abandoned the project, so feel free to send me those notes if you want, just keep in mind I've no access to any OS X installation to try anything :/
